The more than six million-acre Denali National Park & Preserve features North America's highest mountain, the 20,320-foot tall Mount McKinley; and a complete sub-arctic eco-system with such large mammals as grizzly bears, wolves, Dall sheep and moose. Wildlife viewing, mountaineering, and backpacking are just some of the activities to enjoy while at this truly magnificent National Park. The one road entrance into Denali is along Alaska Route 3 (the George Parks Highway), about 240 miles north of Anchorage, 120 miles south of Fairbanks and 12 miles south of Healy. Denali's mountaineering headquarters are in Talkeetna, close to 100 miles north of Anchorage and 140 miles south of the park entrance.
