Sue Waterhouse has done an amazing job turning this beautiful home into a really comfortable and welcoming B&B in such a very short time. She met us at the ferry dock and was nice enough to take us on a narrated tour of Haines - it's obvious she's proud of her newly-adopted hometown! After she showed us to our room, we kicked off our shoes and made ourselves at home which wasn't hard with such a welcoming hostess! I had mentioned to Sue that the cost was a little outside the budget I'd set for our two-weeks of traveling in AK, but once I saw the website photos, I couldn't reserve fast enough, and I'm here to tell you, the website photos are right on the money - what a spectacular view! Breakfast was lovely and made to order. I wish we'd been able to stay longer, but I'd return in a heartbeat, if only to kidnap Wiley!

The Cliffhanger Bed and Breakfast is the best lodging in Haines, Alaska!

Sue has a little piece of paradise amidst the wilderness of Alaska. The town of Haines is quaint, laid back, and truly a breath of fresh air. We definitely appreciated the hot tub (with one of the most extraordinary 360 degree views from a hot tub that I've had in my life) after ice climbing on the Davidson glacier and slept like kings after having camped on the beach in Valdez on a kayak trip. The hospitality was second to none, thank you Sue! Breakfast was made to order (and delicious) and the company was very enjoyable, including Wiley the dog.

We might recommend a mode of transportation to and from town, the walk isn't strenuous, but a stretch of it is on the highway. Once we had bikes though we felt like regular locals. If you are looking for a memorable, refreshing, little bit of something something away from home, choose The Cliffhanger, you won't regret it!
