Located in the first concrete building in Alaska, this museum features one of the oldest Native culture collections in Alaska collected by Dr. Sheldon Jackson between 1880 and 1900. This museum 's collection has been called a jewel in the crown of Alaska ethnographic collections. It has a hands-on loan program, native artists demostrations and features the culture of several native Alaskan tribes. The building was placed on the National Historic Register in 1972. It has a gift shop on site.
