Old Independence Regional Museum opened in the fall of 1998 to interpret the history of the twelve county area in the eastern Ozarks that comprised the original 1820 Independence County. This museum, featuring historical exhibits, displays, and research materials, is housed in a National Register building built as an armory in the 1930's.
