This active lighthouse, first lit with oil lamps on December 10, 1856, and its museum are open for public tours April through September, tides permitting, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Visitors can view the personal quarters of keepers and their families and the furniture and artifacts they have left behind since the 1850's and displays of many maritime artifacts, photographs and documents that chronicle its history, climb into the light tower, and more.
