Of the nearly 2,500 wooden carousels carved in America between 1885 and the 1930's, fewer than 150 are still in existence. The only antique carousel in America still having original paint on both the scenery panels and on the animals, the fully-operational Kit Carson County Carousel is one of the finest survivors. The 6th of 74 carousels manufactured by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, between 1904 and 1933; the Kit Carson County Carousel is a three-row, stationary machine housed in a 12-sided frame building. Open Memorial Day - Labor Day, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The museum's "exhibits have been signed to educate, entertain and take the visitor back in time to the turn-of-the-20th century, when carousels were “king.""
