Healy House and Dexter Cabin 912 Harrison Avenue, Leadville, CO 80461, 719-486-0487, Discover two of Leadville's earliest houses for a glimpse into the Western life of a booming silver mining town. Both homes are filled with lavish Victorian furniture including items belonging to H.A.W. and Augusta Tabor. Open seasonally, so be sure to call for hours of operation. Matchless Mine, The (circa 1880) 197 Seventh Street, Leadville, CO 80461, 719-486-4918, This famous mine belonged to H.A.W. Tabor and features the one room shack where Baby Doe lived out her final years. The shack contains Baby Doe's meager belongings and the last known photograph of her. Tabor Home, The (circa 1877) 116 East Fifth Street, Leadville, CO 80461, 719-486-3900, This magnificent home was built by H.A.W. Tabor and was the home of Horace and his wife Augusta until 1881 when Tabor moved to the Windsor Hotel to be close to his mistress, "Baby Doe." Open daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. You can expect a 45-60 minute tour.  |

Heritage Museum, The 9th Street & Harrison Avenue, 719-486-1878, Located in the old Carnegie Library, this museum houses a fine collection of Leadville memorabilia including Victorian furniture and a collection of mining equipment . There is also a replica scale model of the world's largest Palace of Ice which was built in Leadville in 1896. Open daily from May through October. Allow about 60-90 minutes for your visit. |

National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum 120 West Ninth Street, Leadville, CO 80461, 719-486-1229, The only federal chartered non-profit national mining museum in the world, this museum is the premier showcase of American mining. Leadville, Colorado and Southern Railway, The 326 East 7th Street, PO Box 916, Leadville, CO 80461, 719-486-3936, 866-386-3936, Take a scenic narrated ride alongside the Arkansas River and through the old mining district on this beautiful old train. Visit the historic Victorian depot that is filled with historic photographs and where you can purchase your tickets, souvenirs, or snacks. No reservations are necessary, but do arrive at the depot about 30 minutes before your train leaves. Generally runs from late May through late September with rides lasting about two and a half hours. more...
