Established in 1964, to preserve the history of San Juan County, Colorado, the San Juan County Historical Society's seasonal museum is housed in the circa 1902 San Juan County Jail. Exhibits include a collection of Otto Mears Silver Railroad Passes, an extensive local mineral collection, early day mining and surveying equipment, a Derringer handgun collection, an old-time switchboard, early day school room, a fully equipped turn-of-the-century kitchen, original jail cells that are complete with ball and chain.
