  Built by William Goodspeed for his shipping and banking business and to provide a venue for his love of theatre, the Goodspeed Opera House opened on October 24, 1877. The opera house served as a militia base during World War I, general store and a storage depot for the State of Connecticut Highway Department before it was restored by Goodspeed Musicals, the home of musical theatre, in 1959. more...
