"The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center preserves and interprets Stowe's Hartford home and the Center's historic collections, promotes vibrant discussion of her life and work, and inspires commitment to social justice and positive change." The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center includes the 1871 Gothic Revival-style Harriet Beecher Stowe House, the adjacent 1884 Katharine Seymour Day House and the Visitor Center, the former carriage house (1873) for the Katharine Day House; with museum store, historic Victorian-style gardens and Stowe's Nook Farm neighborhood. The Harriet Beecher Stowe House contains an impressive collection of Stowe and Beecher furnishings, books, manuscripts, and memorabilia. The Katharine Day House is the location of the Stowe Center Research Library, open by appointment only.
