    With hand-carved paneling and corner fireplaces, Jonathan Trumbull Jr.'s home is the house where George Washington spent the night of March 4, 1781. Jonathan Trumbull Jr., son of Connecticut's Revolutionary War Governor, served as General George Washington's secretary during the American Revolution and was later governor of Connecticut from 1797-1809.     It was here that Governor Jonathan Trumbull convened over 1,100 meetings of the Council of Safety to deal with the defense of the colony of Connecticut and to supply provisions to the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. General Knox, Putnam, the Count de Rochambeau, George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette were just some of the figures that participated in the work done here.
