This monument of Sengbe Pieh (known as Joseph Cinque) stands on the former site of the New Haven Jail, where illegally kidnapped Africans were imprisoned in 1839 while awaiting trial. It is a 14-foot sculpture cast in bronze highlighting the capture, trial and return home of Sengbe and his fellow captives.
