The region's foremost destination and source for American Jewish history, the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington explores the unique Jewish heritage of Washington as a hometown and as the nation's capital. The Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington engages and inspires adults and children through exhibitions, a landmark historic synagogue, public programs, and educational initiatives. They collect, preserve, and share cultural material that documents the story of the Jewish community in the Washington, D.C. region as a lens through which broader national and international history may be explored. The Lillian & Albert Small Jewish Museum is open for tours by appointment only. Tours of the historic circa 1876 synagogue building are given by advance reservation only, Tuesday through Friday, at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
