Located on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home, three miles north of the White House, this 34-room Gothic Revival-style house was the seasonal home of President Lincoln and his family from June to November of 1862, 1863 and 1864. It is the "most significant historic site directly associated with Lincoln’s presidency aside from the White House." Reservations are highly recommended for the one-hour, self-guided tours which begin in the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center.
