This museum features a replica of Dr. John Gorrie's ice machine built from the specifications of his patent for mechanical refrigeration in 1851. The ice machine was created in an attempt to cool his yellow fever patients and his invention later became the basis for modern air conditioning and refrigeration. Exhibits regarding the history of Apalachicola are also on display.
