Built by Coconut Grove pioneer Ralph Munroe, the Barnacle home on site of this park is the oldest home in Miami-Dade County that is still in its original location. The National Tropical Botanical Garden is "dedicated to the conservation of tropical plant diversity, particularly rare and endangered species." One of four gardens and three preserves in Hawaii and south Florida, The Kampong is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features many fruit cultivars and flowering trees that had been introduced by famous plant explorer David Fairchild.
