Originally the site of a wooden grist mill purchased by Elias Hightower in 1846 and converted into a facsimile of the Whitney cotton gin, this mill was once a vibrant mercantile center near Cedartown. Sherman's men ate and slept here on their march through the state during the Civil War but spared the mill from the fate which befell so many others.

In the 60's Hightower Falls was a cool, remote place to hang out when we teenagers were up to various degrees of mischief. However, by today's standards, it was all quite tame. Nevertheless, Baby Boomers from the area have fond memories of Hightower Falls, before it was developed.

I remember goming to Hightower Falls as a child after church on Sundays. We would picnic and play in the water, it is truly one of my favorite memories. When asked for security questions on my computer or banks or business, the security question I always choose is my favorite childhood vacation spot is Hightower Falls. I still love those memories
