We rented a cabin for 2 nights, Saturday and Sunday night. We arrived in the area a little before check in time at 4:00pm. The road to the cabin was completely iced over. We called the office to notify them. We asked to be switched to a different cabin or a get a refund. They lied to us and said that they could not provide another cabin. They said they would get someone to clear the road and would call us back. An hour and a half went by, and we didn’t get a call. We called the office and they said it would be clear in 1.5 hours, and they would call us back. We waited 1.5 hours and still no call. We called back around 6:15pm, and they said the road to the driveway was clear. By this time it was dark. The road was not clear. It was still covered in ice and we almost went into a ditch. They sent us into a safety hazard.
Finally, Angie said she would drive her truck out to help us. At this point she admitted that there was another cabin available that was easier to get to. She said she would be there in 15 minutes. She got there in 45 minutes. We finally got to the back-up cabin. She could not get all the way up to the driveway even with her 4X4 truck. She left us at the foot of a steep driveway that was covered in a sheet of ice. We had to carry our luggage up a safety hazard in pitch black darkness. Our van could not get out the drive-way back onto the main road because of the ice. We thought it wouldn’t be prudent to get back on the icy roads as the temperature was dropping. We were forced to stay the night.
Finally, we got up to the cabin. We found out the heat does not work. The temperature inside the cabin was in the 40’s. The outside temperature was in the 20’s. We immediately called back, and they told us a few things to try. Nothing worked. An hour or two later some maintenance workers were sent to fix the heat. They could not. We slept all night by the fire on the couch barely staying warm in our supposed luxury cabin.
The next morning we called before 11:00 to ask about the heat. They said that it would not be fixed. We asked if we could check out early with a full refund. Lynn who was working in the office had no idea about problem, and tried to call the owner, Dave, to ask about the refund. He talked to her once and said he would call her back, and he never did. She said she would try to get us a refund. We waited and waited for a few hours until finally Lynn told us to go ahead and leave. She had no authority to give refunds. That authority belonged to Dave alone. She recommended that we file a complaint with BBB. She said, “I’m on your side. This is a bad way to do business.”
