This company should stop using horses in weather above 85 degrees. The horses look as if they are ready to drop and the drivers have NO clue how to spot a horse in distress. They don't know how to monitor respirations and temperature to allow a horse a rest. They keep horses in trailers on HOT days and rarely give them breaks. I think it is a great service when the weather permits, but not during days when the heat index is high. Sad to see this in such a beautiful town.

I work in a shop in downtown Helen and the lady who has this company appears to take very good care of her horses. I watch them every day... and I live down the road where she turns around in a shady spot. Her horses look happy. Their hair is well maintained, they walk well, and have their heads upright. I'm not a horse specialist... but there is one horse n buggy not hers... one day the horse looked unhappy, but it was OK the next day... maybe horses have their 'days' too... but Horne's all look great to me. A couple of them you can tell they enjoy all the attention and look proud to wear their decorative straps and stuff... Helen is a fun place to live and work. :)

I don't know where "DONFAR7" gets his information from, but the horses at Horney's Buggy Rides are NOT "kept in a trailer all day." As a matter of fact, they have a very nice farm within the city limits (lush green pastures, nice barns, etc.) It's right down Dandy Lane (a dirt road on the right as you're leaving Helen and heading towards Cleveland.) I am a horseperson, and I can tell you that Horne's has the best looking and best cared for horses out on the street.

I am sorry, but I took a bunch of friends up to Helen for a day and we took a "ride". The $7.00, about 15 minute ride was just about worthless. The horse was beautiful (and I am sure well cared for - I used to own a horse, so I think I could spot an unwell horse). However, Ms. Starla was not a good host. She pointed out one place, was very impatient for us to off-load when we got back.

I have lived in Helen my entire life, my family settled this land, so we have all been here a very long time. The horse and buggy rides have been there for an very long time, and I stress the word VERY. and they have always been fun to me and my family,Im sure, if the horses were being abused or the prices wernt what its worth, they would have all been shut down a long time ago :)

thanks,and God bless :)

I was walking by and was very sad to see that one of your horses carrying 4 people the drive could barely walk. Was struggling on a flat incline. It was so sad!!!
People if you love animals please speak up if you plan to ride on a horse carriage. We need to be kind to all creatures.

There should be no rides abovei 85 degrees and they should be parked in shade, not on the side of the road in direct sunlight. When weather permits, fine, but there's no reason to use them in this heat and not keep them in the shade. Last time I shaw these horses, they were foaming at the mouth from heat exhaustion and no water was around.
