Recreating rural African American culture circa 1865 through the 1930s, this award-winning living history museum features turn-of-the-century buildings, including a one-room school, and exhibits include the grave art of Cyprus Bowens and the Willis Hakjim Jones Material Culture Collection of handmade items. Visitors can try their hand grinding corn into meal and grits and washing clothes on a scrub board while at this museum and costumed interpreters engage in all aspects of village life for planned group tours.
