Built under the administration of President Thomas Jefferson, this historic fort overlooked the ancient Indian mounds of the Ocmulgee Old Fields, as well as the future site of Macon, across the river. A three story museum located in the reconstructed blockhouse is on site and is filled with information on the fort, Benjamin Hawkins, and the Creek Indians.
