The only public lodging facility on Cumberland Island, Greyfield Inn was built as a wedding gift for the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Carnegie. The hotel has blended the original furnishings, from the turn of the century, with the luxury and convenience of contemporary amenities. Lodging rates include round trip boat transportation from Amelia Island, Florida (40 minutes south of St. Marys, Georgia); three hearty meals each day, including their famous candlelit gourmet dinner; a wonderful three-hour vehicular tour of the island with a staff naturalist; use of bicycles, kayaks, beach and fishing equipment, and unlimited, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, during the stay. Day trips and dinner trips are also available.
