Legend has it that when a cyclone leveled the Lower City Market, this is the only the pillar that remained and an itinerant preacher implied that anyone daring to touch the pillar would meet instant death. The story continues to this day, "Anyone attempting to move the Pillar will die of mysterious circumstances shortly after."
