This 180 acre national historic park was established in 1961 and was once a place of refuge and healing for Kapu breakers, criminals, and prisoners of war who escaped and reached this site. The park includes the pu`uhonua, as well as a complex of archeological sites such as temple platforms, royal fishponds, sledding tracks, and coastal village sites.
