This park features a seawall which provides a good place to enter the water for swimming, snorkeling, net fishing, surfing, and bodysurfing. Covered picnic pavilions and paved walkways are also part of the park, as well as the Richardson Ocean Center, an interpretive and recreation center that contains displays of marine life.

Snorkeling here is excellent, with several kinds of coral, green sea turtles, sea cucumbers, and many kinds of fish, including numerous humuhumunukunukuapua'a. A small black sand beach provides access without stepping on and damaging the corals. Also a good place for a beginning surf lesson. Fishponds and a historical plaque about the relationship of Richardson to the Malo family add interest.
