One of only four museums in Hawaii that is accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Lyman Museum is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution. The Lyman Museum began as the circa 1839 Lyman Mission House. Next door to the Mission House, the Lyman Museum building houses a collection of artifacts, fine art and natural history exhibits, archives, special exhibitions and a gift shop. The restored Mission House is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Guided tours are available. Open by appointment only, the Lyman Museum Archives includes historical documents, books and photographic collections.
