ISHS to honor Illinois municipalities at Centennial Awards reception
Dear Illinois County Officials,
Since 1984, the Illinois State Historical Society (ISHS) has presented Centennial Awards to Illinois businesses and not-for-profit organizations that have conducted operations in the state for 100 years or more. Centennial honorees have included include banks, mom-and-pop businesses, cemetery associations, private utility companies, country clubs, funeral homes, newspapers, union organizations, and athletic clubs, but NOT municipalities.
This year the Society’s 2011 Centennial Awards Committee will offer Illinois municipalities an opportunity to receive a special a framed Sesquicentennial Award, signed by the Governor and ISHS President Russell Lewis, which recognizes cities, villages, and county governments that have served that state and its citizens for 150 years or more. The awards will be presented at the Executive Mansion in Springfield on September 24, 2011. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity and send in the application (enclosed) along with a non-refundable check for $50 (administration fee), which helps support the work of the ISHS, a private not-for-profit organization that receives no government funding.
2011 ISHS Centennial Award winners will receive written confirmation of their award and an invitation to a private afternoon reception at the Illinois Executive Mansion in Springfield, scheduled for Saturday, September 24. In addition to one free ticket to the reception, award recipients will take home: a framed official certificate signed by Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and ISHS President Russell Lewis; a one-year complimentary membership in the Society; and use of the Society Centennial Awards logo on their company letterhead. Photographs and press releases of all attendees will be sent to community and statewide media outlets, posted on the ISHS website, and presented free of charge to those who attend the reception.
For more information about the Centennial Awards, call 217-525-2781, or visit the ISHS website at www.historyillinois.org.
Sincerely yours,
William Furry
