Built to protect the permanent Indian frontier and used from 1842 to 1873, Fort Scott National Historic Site includes 20 historic structures, 11 of which are open to the public; a parade ground and five acres of restored tallgrass prairie. 33 historically furnished rooms depict the fort as it might have looked in the 1840's. The entrance to the site is one block west of the intersection of Highway 69 and Highway 54 East.
