One of the finest general art museums in the United States, the Nelson-Atkins currently maintains collections of more than 33,500 works of art, including Asian, Ancient, American Indian and African works of art. Comprised of paintings, sculptures and drawings, many of which are displayed along with works of decorative art, the modern and contemporary art collection includes European art from 1900 to the present and American art from 1945 to the present. Along with the Hallmark Photographic Collection, "one of the finest private collections of American photography ever assembled," the Museum's photography collection includes works from 1839 to the present. With more than 6,000 examples, from the 15th century to the 21st century, the print collection is one of the largest collections in the Museum.
