Trego County Courthouse   (circa 1889)
216 North Main Street
WaKeeney, KS 67672

Constructed from Trego County hard stone and finished with Manhattan stone, this historic limestone courthouse is one of the oldest still in operation in Kansas today. Used for almost 90 years until 1976 when it was condemned, the historic Trego County Jail, in the basement of the Courthouse, was built at the same time as the rest of the Courthouse. Its unique jail cells feature flat bars rather than round ones and a usual locking system. The jail remains intact today and is used for storage.
