Owned and operated by the Augusta Historical Society, the Augusta Historical Museum features rotating exhibits that cover time eras from the pre-1800's through the 1950's. Built of hand-hewn cottonwood logs from along the Walnut River in 1868, the C.N. James log cabin is one of the oldest landmarks in Butler County. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the cabin is one of only two in the state of Kansas that is on its original site. Augusta's first school classes were held in the upper loft.
