Lincoln's humble beginnings can be better understood because of the symbolic early 19th century Kentucky cabin, housed within a Neo-classic Memorial Building, at the site of his birth. The Birthplace Unit features 116 acres of Thomas Lincoln's Sinking Spring Farm. The granite stairs leading up to the Memorial Building at his birthplace represent his age when he died, 56. The Sinking Spring, site of the Boundary Oak tree and other items can also be seen. The Boyhood Home Unit at Knob Creek Farm was home to Lincoln during his earlier years.
