America's tallest state capitol, the Art Deco style Louisiana State Capitol building is 34 stories and has housed the offices of the governor and Congress since its completion. It is also the site of the assassination of Huey Long in 1935. An observation deck on the 27th floor provides fantastic views of the Mississippi River. The Louisiana State Capitol, a National Historic Landmark, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except on major holidays.
