Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this winter home was built by acclaimed American actor Joseph Jefferson, known for his portrayal of Rip Van Winkle, a role he played more than 4,500 times. Surrounded by the Rip Van Winkle Gardens, this 22-room mansion reflects Moorish, Steamboat Gothic, French and Southern Plantation styles and features a fourth-story cupola, 350-year-old-oak trees, heirlooms, period paintings, rare Louisiana pieces and fine examples of American and French Empire furniture. Tours are given on the hour seven days a week starting at 9:00 a.m.
