Located about seven miles downriver from the New Orleans French Quarter, this historic site is a monument to two of the most significant wars in U.S. History and is one of the six sites of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Each January, there is a re-enactment. The Chalmette National Cemetery is the final resting place of several Union and Confederate soldiers as well as Buffalo Soldiers and veterans from the Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, and Vietnam. The Beauregard House, also within the area, serves as the visitor center for Chalmette National Historic Park.
