Surrounded by breathtaking ancient live oak trees, this magnificent West Indies-style home is nestled on the banks of the scenic Mississippi River and is the oldest plantation house left intact in the lower Mississippi Valley. The tour of the plantation features unique exhibits, including "The Jefferson Room" which contains an original document signed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, dated 1806. This house is filled with a fine collection of early to mid-19th century furnishings and decorative arts including items that once belonged to Destrehan family members. A gift shop is on site that sells a variety of reproduction period antiques and collectibles. Tours are available.
