United States Custom House

New Orleans, LA 70116
Begun in 1848 and interrupted by the Civil War, this Greek Revival building with neo-Egyptian details was used as an office by Major General Benjamin "Spoons" Butler during Union occupation and also served as a prison for Confederate soldiers. The Custom House is considered an architectural wonder and is one of the most important buildings in the southern United States.
