One of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in Louisiana, St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church is considered the "Mother Church of the Acadians." St. Martin de Tours features a baptismal font and sanctuary lamp from Louis XVI, four rows of original box pews in the sanctuary, 14 columns, and beautiful stained glass windows. The Church's cemetery contains the statue of Evangeline. Guided tours are available in French and English.

My Grandfather, Joachim Babin, son of Rosalia (Slave of Joseph Allegre) was baptized at St. Martin De Tours on April 2, 1865. He was born in St. Martinville on the plantation on November 10, 1864. His Godparents were Antoine and Philomine. This information was from a document I obtained from Church of St. Martin, St. Martinville, Louisiana from the Records of the Book of Slaves No. 834 1860-1865. I have a copy of the Baptismal Certificate. Can you locate the Records of the Plantation. I have been in touch with Mrs.Pointer and she has been quit helpful, but I'm still trying to find the location of that Plantation.
