The Mount, reminiscent of an English estate with a French courtyard and Italianate terraces, features 35 extraordinary rooms and now houses a cultural and educational center that focuses on the achievement of women and offers a lecture series in July and August. Ventfort Hall (circa 1893) 104 Walker Street, Lenox, MA 01240, Center of Lenox, 413-637-3206, This fantastic Gilded Age mansion was built as a summer home for Sarah Morgan, the sister of financier J.P. Morgan, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was saved from destruction in 1997 and now houses "The Museum of the Gilded Age at Ventfort," which presents programs about the tremendous social and industrial changes that took place in the Nineteenth Century as the “robber barons” increased their power and wealth and displayed their achievements with buildings and collections that bespeak the shining, ostentatious splendour of the age.
