This fantastic Gilded Age mansion was built as a summer home for Sarah Morgan, the sister of financier J.P. Morgan, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was saved from destruction in 1997 and now houses "The Museum of the Gilded Age at Ventfort," which presents programs about the tremendous social and industrial changes that took place in the Nineteenth Century as the “robber barons” increased their power and wealth and displayed their achievements with buildings and collections that bespeak the shining, ostentatious splendour of the age. The house and grounds were the site for the filming of the 1998 movie "Cider House Rules.” Tours of the home, which is still in the process of being restored, are available.
