King's Chapel (circa 1754)
Corner of Tremont and School Streets
Boston, MA 02116

King’s Chapel was the first Anglican Church established in Boston; the original structure was built adjacent to Boston’s burying ground in 1688, and when this structure had grown to be too small for the growing congregants, architect Peter Harrison designed the present building in 1749; construction was completed in 1754. Recognized as one of the five hundred most important buildings in America, and one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture to be found in America, the church was built with the aim of being a work of architecture that “would be the equal of any in England.”
