America’s “most beautiful Anglo-Palladian house” was built by English architect William Buckland for wealthy tobacco planter Matthias Hammond. The Hammond-Hardwood House features one of the largest collections of paintings by Charles Willson Peale and furniture by John Shaw in the area. The house museum is open for walk-in and group tours April through October and for group tours only from November through March.
