Home to the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience, the Custom House has been the residence of Thomas Ringgold, a leader of the local Sons of Liberty; U.S. Senator James Alfred Pearce, a warehouse, store and quarters for the British redcoats during the French and Indian War. Situated at the center of a National Historic District of 18th- and 19th-century houses, overlooking the Chester River, the restored Custom House features original Georgian paneling, fireplaces, wide-board floors and a riverfront porch.
