An electric map, a self guided auto tour, and four trails interpret the July 9, 1864 battle of Monocacy, known as the "Battle That Saved Washington." Here 18,000 Confederate forces under the command of Lieutenant General Jubal Early and 5,800 Union forces under Major General Lew Wallace marked the last campaign of the Confederacy to carry the war into the north.
