The largest facility in the state forest system, the over 54,000-acre Savage River State Forest preserves a strategic watershed in Garrett County. Amenities include 10 miles of cross-country skiing trails at New Germany State Park, biking trails, a boat launch, hiking trail, campsites, and riding trails. Fishing, canoeing, hunting, snowmobiling, camping, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing are just some of the activities visitors enjoy.
