St. Michaels Museum celebrates and promotes the unique history of St. Michaels and the surrounding area through preservation and education. Providing an interesting look at life in St. Michaels in the 1800's, St. Michaels Museum's complex, on the former site of the circa 1800 St. Michaels High School, features three vernacular buildings. The circa 1865 Sewell House is furnished with period pieces that reflect the life of a typical working family of the time. Built by three free African American brothers, the circa 1850, two-room Chaney home "is typical of its genre." Built in 1860, the Teetotum Building has served as a magistrate's office, town jail, saddle shop, mortuary, bank, and a barber shop.
