The first National Park east of the Mississippi River, the 35,000-acre Acadia National Park is home to many plants and animals, and the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic coast, Cadillac Mountain, which during much of the fall and winter has the earliest sunrise in the United States. There are over 120 miles of historic hiking trails and the carriage roads are popular with walkers, runners, bikers, and carriage riders. Acadia National Park has two beaches staffed with lifeguards from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
