Housed in the first two buildings of the Bates Mill Complex, Museum L-A was established to "preserve and share the heritage of local textile production, shoe making and brick manufacturing." Museum L-A's permanent exhibit focuses on the textile and shoe making industries of Lewiston-Auburn and the people who worked in them. Temporary exhibits explore such themes as "organized labor, the role of women in the workplace, child labor, changes in technology, immigration, culture, and community."
