Founded in 1936, the Penobscot Marine Museum is the oldest marine museum in Maine. Situated among 13 buildings, eight of which are listed on National Register of Historic Buildings; the Penobscot Marine Museum features a collection of fine 19th century marine art, exhibits relating to Maine's seafaring and shipbuilding industry from the early 1800's, including 19th century sea captain artifacts and furniture; the Eastern Illustrating and Publishing Company's collection of over 30,000 historic images of New England and beyond taken from 1880 to 1940, the circa 1949, 83-foot Jacob Pike, Stephen Phillips Memorial Library and much more.
