Surrounded by three Great Lakes, Michigan, Superior and Huron, the Hiawatha National Forest is host to a wide range of bird habitats. The Kirtland's warbler, sharp-tailed grouse, boreal chickadee, sandhill crane, pileated woodpecker, peregrine falcon and Canada and Blackburnian warblers are just some types that call the Hiawatha National Forest home for a period of time. The Hiawatha is "the only National Forest to host six lighthouses, five of which maintain full federal ownership." 300 miles of snowmobile trails are also available.
